The vision for the Montrose Veterans Memorial took another major step forward on June 17, 2026, as concrete was poured at the memorial site located at 1800 Pavilion Drive in Montrose.
For Montrose Veterans Memorial Coalition Board Chairman J. Bob Brueske, the day was one he had long anticipated.
"It was like a kid at Christmas," Brueske said. "Watching this finally happen felt like opening presents."
The work marks an important milestone in the construction of the memorial, which will honor veterans from all branches of service and provide a lasting place of reflection and remembrance for the community.
Strong Community Partnerships
Wednesday's concrete pour highlighted the importance of community support and the many partners helping bring the memorial to life.
Alliance Ready Mix, one of the Coalition's major in-kind donors, supplied the concrete while Double A also played a key role in the project.
"Alliance is one of our major in-kind donors, and the same with Double A," Brueske said. "It was great to see two of our biggest supporters coming together in such a meaningful way."
Construction Moving Forward
Stryker Company Senior Project Manager Brian Stahlin was onsite overseeing the work as crews prepared and formed the bases. With construction now accelerating, weekly meetings between the Coalition and Stryker Company will begin to ensure the project stays on schedule.
Brueske said construction of the Montrose Veterans Memorial is expected to be completed this fall.
Looking Ahead
Once construction is finished, the Coalition plans to celebrate with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and special brick-laying events to recognize supporters whose contributions helped make the memorial possible.
